Beginner's Business Guide to the Internet - Page 10

Budget:

To prepare your budget you will need to know the following components. The figures supplied are purely hypothetical, but can be used as a "rough guide" based on a "first generation" site only with a base hosting package. Taxes, if any, etc are not included. Australian dollar used.

Internet connection. Annual (or $25 monthly) fee. ADSL Business plans expect $840 p.a.

$300

Domain name registration (.com.au) - every 2 years.

$65

Hosting site set up - Base business package

$60

Hosting site  - Base business package (includes unlimited email boxes) - per annum

$420

Basic web design (if developer used)

$850

Total (Min):

$1695

Plus monthly maintenance (this will vary considerably) say:

$100

So, how does this all shape up?
Payable annually (or monthly) - Internet connection and site hosting   $720
Payable every 2 years - Domain name registration $65
Payable once only - Site setup and site development $910
Payable monthly or ad hoc - maintenance and updating $100

Year 1 costs (Maintenance for only 11 months - 1 month build) $2795
Year 2 costs $1920
Year 3 costs $1985
Year 4 costs $1920

All sites should be given a "facelift" after 2 years. It is amazing how much can change in "look and feel" over this period of time. Budget accordingly.

Now compare these costs with your current printing and advertising costs. You do not need to stop using the other mediums, just adjust your quantities of each to fit in with your new marketing strategy and budgets. There should be savings.

Summary:

Well, I hope you have found this "Beginner's Business Guide to the Internet" useful and informative.
